FORMIC ACID

Formic acid, also known as methanoic acid, is a naturally occurring carboxylic acid with the chemical formula HCOOH. It is the simplest carboxylic acid and is a colorless liquid with a pungent, penetrating odor. It is also used in the production of certain chemicals such as formates, oxalic acid, and methanol. In addition, formic acid is used as a reducing agent, a pH regulator, and a preservative in the leather and rubber industries. It is also used as a cleaning agent in the textile industry, and as a coagulant in the production of some cheeses. It can also be produced by the carbon monoxide and hydrogen reaction called the oxo-synthesis. It’s also used as a feed additive for livestock, to increase growth rate and improve feed efficiency.
